Jesse Dee is, in my opinion, one of the best young (and for the most part unknown) artists out there. I’m sure this song has been posted before, but I can’t get enough of it and I think it fits this week’s theme. It’s Called “Slow Down” and Jesse gives a good performance here, but I highly recommend checking out the album version…

Kevin Shima

January 27, 2010

In my first two years of college there was a band in athens called Fokushima was at the top of a very vibrant music scene.  Some of the best times I ever had in college were at these shows.  Also Kevin was in a band called Homonkulous in Bloomington IN where my family currently lives.  Here is Kevin Shima playing ‘room with a view’ a song that has been on and off stuck in my head for years now.  A good play for the morning to carry on with the theme for this week

Cake is Good

January 26, 2010

The dessert, in my humble opinion is a bit overrated. The band is anything but. I have always pictured this song as the opening scene in a potentially sweet movie, waking up to a sunny summer morning and starting the day as the credits roll…

This aint living

January 25, 2010

I am posting this at 10:46 (early) on a monday as the sun is breaking through my kitchen window and its really bright.  With this G-Love playing things kind of feel in place.  So here begins my theme week ‘themusicyoushouldhear when you wake up’.  So disregard the title of this post… if your reading this you are alive

My buddy (above) sent me this track to post on the site, its pretty wild. If robots take over the earth someday, this is the song they will be dancing to in the endzone at superbowl XXIVCMIVCX

Don’t Shoot the Deputy…

January 13, 2010

Zach Deputy that is. Last year I had the opportunity to see this guy live at Jackie O’s in Athens, Ohio and needeless to say, it was awesome. He blends so many different style and does it all basically as a one man band. He recently released his second studio album called “Out of the Water”, but I don’t think you can really get a feel for his music unless you see it live. Real nice guy too. Check out “Sunshine” from Skippers Smokehouse in Tampa.

Also, it’s fuckin awesome. Son House has influenced just about everyone who has listened to and played blues music in the last century, whether they were aware of it or not. I heard this tune for the first time on the documentary “It May Get Loud” (also sweet) and immediately had to post.

Mushaboomers

January 12, 2010

Here’s a cool remix of Feist’s 2004 “Mushaboom”, done by Benjamin Gibbard and The Postal Service.

people say hip hop is dead and its all materialistic, these two rappers are heading the the right direction and it doesn’t take a certain skin color to see it
